To join the club you need to have previously completed a beginners course (with any archery club) or complete one with us. We generally run two or three a year, and they are for 4 sessions of 2 hours each. The fee for the course is £40 per person – the fee is the same for adults / juniors. Juniors must be at least 10 years old. We do ask you not to wear sandals or other open footwear, and if you have long hair to bring something to tie it back. You will also need a spare shoe lace for week 2!
We run regular ‘have a go’s’ in the spring and summer, and these are a great way to try archery for a few hours in a safe and fun setting. There is no charge, although we welcome donations. See ‘Events’ for have a go’s and beginners courses in 2016.
Once you have completed the course you will be welcome to become a club member. The yearly subscriptions are as follows:
Juniors (under £18): £45
Your Own Equipment (Bow & Arrows etc)
It’s personal choice, but a good start is a basic trainer bow with 8 arrows, glove, bracer, bag, sight if required – around £100 to £120 total for basic kit. Silver Arrow and Chiltern Archery both do limb exchange – you pay more for the bow, but when you need stronger limbs you go back and swap them, so we encourage our beginners to go for this option.
When we shoot
The club ‘session’ is nominally Saturday, 2pm to 4pm (often 12-2pm in Winter); although Club Members may shoot at anytime when there is not a football match being played. No one should shoot alone for safety reasons. Set up will be discussed when you join.
Juniors: Weather permitting, there will always be a Coach or other experienced club member present on the Second Saturday of every month, 2pm to 4pm (often 12-2pm in Winter); to facilitate you being able to shoot. (other weeks – please email the club email group to find out whether a Coach is likely to be present).
